Fall Fest & The Pinewood Derby

Come on down and bring the whole family! There will be food, carnival games and everyone's favorite event... the Pinewood Derby. Make sure you purchase and build your car before the event. FOF will be selling cars leading up to the big day.


All cars must be registered when you arrive at the Fall Festival.  Registration takes place at the main entrance for all cars.  Prizes will be awarded for the fastest cars (“Speed Race”) and those judged to have ‘’Best Style.’’ There is a $10 fee to enter a car in the Speed Race; no charge to enter the Style competition.

  1. All car kits must be purchased from Friend of Franklin (“FOF”).  Do not buy them on-line as they may be a different type of car. 

  2. In the Speed Race, cars must be taken to the drop-off after initial registration at the main entrance for inspection.  Drop off is near the “Pit-stop” in the Northeast corner of the Lower Yard.  All cars entering the speed race must have four wheels, with axels and wheels from a car kit purchased through FOF or from a teacher. Cars may not weigh more than 6 oz., or be wider than 2 3/4, or longer than 7 ½ inches. There are no size, weight or material limitations on cars that only enter the style competition so be creative!

  3. Speed Race Registration - Cars must be registered and in the drop-off line before 3 pm in order to race. Any car that wins a ribbon in a preliminary round/heat race must stay in race center in order to be eligible for the final championship race. Keep in mind: cars that make it to the final championship race may be on the tracks until 5 pm or later, no matter when they first started to race.

  4. The Speed Race has “Heats” of 18 cars that race 3 at a time.  All cars in the Speed Race race a minimum of 6 races.  The cumulative performance in the Heat determines the top 4 cars in a Heat, who then race for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and receive ribbons in the Heat.  Those winners advance to single elimination bracket races (similar to the NCAA Basketball brackets) against the winners of the other heats.  The top 3 cars overall receive trophies.

  5. Every car that is registered for Style and/or Speed is judged for Style.  Judging occurs throughout the day at both the Style table (at the center of Fall Fest) and in the race center. If your car is in a race, it will still be judged for best style in the race center.  Ribbons are awarded for Best Style to five cars at three different times: 2pm, 3:30, and 5 pm.   The top Style car receives a Trophy.

  6. There will be a workshop where cars can be cut by a parent volunteer on Friday, September 28th from 2:35-5pm after school in the lower yard.  The cuts will be basic and will require you to complete the car on your own.

  7. Most important of all is to HAVE FUN! 


This year we are introducing some very cool carnival games and new inflatables. $1 Tickets will be available at the ticket booth located at the entrance.

New This Year: "Fall Fest All-You-Can-Play Wristband”. One wristband gets your kiddos on every inflatable, and unlimited plays on every carnival game, all day long! Cost: $100 available in the store page.
