NEW FAMILY MENTORING PROGRAM
Are you new to Franklin and looking for someone to help you learn the ropes?
Or are you an experienced Franklin parent who is interested in making a positive impact on the lives of new families joining our Franklin Avenue Elementary community?
We are pairing parents as mentors with new, incoming families. We want to help welcome all new families to the school and provide a resource to make the transition to Franklin as seamless and stress free as possible.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL
Dropping off and Picking up Students Safely
Observe the 25 MPH speed limit near the school
Utilize the Valet “Drop Off” in the mornings.
Avoid parking or stopping in an area that has orange cones set up. This area needs to be kept clear at all times. Please do not move the cones to park.
Drop-off and pick-up children on the passenger side of the vehicle (next to curb).
Do not pick up or drop off children on the opposite side of the street and cause children to jay walk, cross the street without adult supervision, or walk between vehicles.
Do not park or stop in traffic lanes when picking up or dropping off children.
Loading Zone Definition - According to Parking Enforcement, an adult must remain behind the steering wheel of the vehicle. If you get out of your car to pick up your child … it is a violation and you may be ticketed.
Gates are closed promptly after drop off in the morning and after pick up at dismissal.
At dismissal we ask that families who pick up at the Franklin gate to wait near the eating area. We also ask that you wait in front of the school for pick up or at the Commonwealth gate. We ask that families do not enter the school and walk hallways while waiting.
The front door will be locked from 8:10 until 5:30 on a daily basis.
Silverlake Reservoir Complex
Master Plan Community Workshop
As many of you may know, a master planning process has been undertaken by the City of Los Angeles to redesign the Silver Lake Reservoirs. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have input in space that will be shared within the community, as well as an incredible teaching moment for our kids. The process kicked off at the start of summer with a community meeting to explain the master planning process that is now underway.
The second meeting is scheduled for Saturday August 24th. This meeting will be a chance to go inside the reservoir and help invent the future space. It will be a time to meet the project team and also give your thoughts and ideas on how to re-imagine this incredible space.
